Strategic Silence in a Crowded Bus

The bus was packed. The air thick with chatter.

Then it happened. Someone stepped on my toes.

The pain was sharp. But the most painful thing was the silence that followed.

I didn’t say a word. I froze. Invisible in the noise of the crowded bus.

Years later, on another crowded bus, the scene reversed.

This time, I accidentally stepped on someone else’s foot as was heading towards my seat.

The man—in a butcher’s uniform and cowboy hat—turned instantly with piercing eyes and said with confidence:

“Watch your foot, young blood.”

In that moment, I realized something powerful:

Silence without strategy leaves you stuck. But clarity, foresight, and confidence turn problems into platforms.

The Lesson

That bus ride taught me this:

Strategy is not trial and error but a methodical process you can follow.

It’s the bridge between vision and execution.

Without it, your direction may be clear, but your momentum stalls.

The 5A’s of Strategy™

You might be wondering:

“But what strategy can I implement right now to bridge the gap between vision and execution?”

Here’s the framework I developed to make strategy practical:

  1. Assess →Diagnose the present reality to gain clarity. On the bus, the problem wasn’t the pain. It was being stuck in a cycle of silence.
  2. Align → Anchor decisions to values and vision so choose direction you’re headed. I wanted to be seen and heard, not invisible. That became my compass.
  3. Anticipate → Look ahead for risks and opportunities to sharpen your foresight. I realized silence would hold me back, not just on the bus, but in personal and professional life.
  4. Adapt → Adjust in real time with agility. I learned to pivot by modeling the confidence I saw in my own inner potential and the others
  5. Amplify → Scale what works into meaningful impact.

Today, I’ve amplified that lesson into frameworks, coaching, and keynotes that help others find their voice.
