It’s How You Feel

I asked a friend who had just crossed 40 several months ago a simple question:

“So… how is life past 40 so far?”

She paused. Grinned. Smiled. Shrugged her shoulders.

Then she said:

“It’s how you feel, Felix.”

Her answer caught me off guard, not because it was clever, but because it was true. I found her answer both fulfilling and empowering.

So, I asked again, just to be sure. She smiled once more and said, with certainty:

“It’s how you feel.”

Not the number. Not the milestones. Not the titles or timelines we’re taught to chase.

It’s how you feel about:

• the life you’ve built
• the choices you’ve owned
• the clarity you’ve earned
• the courage you’re still willing to exercise

That’s when it clicked.

Forty doesn’t change life. Your level of self-leadership awareness does.

Self-leadership awareness reshapes how you feel about yourself, your problems, your work, your relationships, and your purpose. And that internal shift often becomes the real next promotion in life, career, and business.

After 40, something subtle but important happens. You stop outsourcing meaning to age. You stop using timelines as permission slips. And you start taking responsibility for how you feel, and how you show up.

When you reach that point, something else changes too. You don’t feel the need to over-explain your actions when you’re aligned with the consequences and the legacy those actions will leave behind.

Because when your actions align with the future you’re willing to live with and the impact you’re willing to leave behind, you don’t need approval.

You need integrity.

That’s the real work of self-leadership.

Clarity → Action → Impact

And one more thing.

If you feel invisible, the way out isn’t waiting to be seen. It’s choosing to stop being invisible.

Lead with integrity, and you won’t just feel different. You’ll make a different impact.
